Toon Boom Harmony
The industry standard for both traditional and puppet animation, it's a hefty vector-based program that supports rigging and even compositing if you so wish. It's the one taught at SCAD. To get it through SCAD, click HERE, or go to your MySCAD > Resources tab, scroll to the bottom to find the Educational Pricing box and click "Toon Boom".
TV Paint
Used by quite a few studios, it has a beautiful hand-drawn look and feel, but it doesn't support vector or rigging. Meant to feel as close to animating on paper as possible. Unfortunately SCAD doesn't grant free access to this program, if you want to use it you'll have to buy it out of pocket.

Moho
Up and coming rigging software, it makes rigging quick and easy and has cool features like smart bones, the ability to export to game engines and 3D software, smart line boil, and much more! It's being used by studios like Cartoon Saloon and independent productions like Judas Iscariot (by SCAD Alum Charles Kugler). Not free via SCAD either, but it's a fairly cheap, one-time purchase (depending on the version).
